Should I Change Jobs

As recruiters, we work in an extremely competitive and target-driven industry. It’s no longer enough to just have a natural sales talent and drive for the job. For recruiters to achieve the best of their professional abilities, they are going to need a genuine connection, passion and drive for the market they operate in.

“When a flower doesn't bloom you fix the environment in which it grows, not the flower.”
- Alexander den Heijer

Recruiters who are not performing up to their expectations in their current market, or not finding the marketing that they operate in stimulating, exciting or without any real purpose, will slowly but surely begin to feel disengaged and dissatisfied with their career.

So, if you're feeling like you’re plateauing in your chosen market, I suggest that you cut your losses and find a new market, a new challenge, and a whole host of new opportunities. Daunting? It should be. Although change can be scary, it is undeniably the precise thing that is needed to reach your true potential and work fulfilment.

What are the benefits of changing your market?

With the potential for higher earnings, more progression, and greater career fulfilment, transitioning the market in which you recruit is a no-brainer. You already have the knowledge needed to excel as an experienced recruiter. All you need now is a lucrative and resilient market that you know you will engage with.

Won't moving markets mean starting all over again?

A common misconception among recruiters is that transitioning your recruitment market means starting completely from scratch. In reality, if you have previous experience in the recruitment industry, then truly understanding the ins and outs of a new market will take you about three months. After this time, you will be fully operating, and building yourself a niche to excel in your new field. In the grand scheme of things, three months is a small sacrifice of your time to grow your personal, professional, and financial satisfaction.

If you're thinking about changing your recruitment market, consider what your personal passions are, what your values are and what markets have a purposeful and meaningful vision. With so many markets to work in, there is no reason you can’t find one that makes a difference to you.
