As recruiters, we work in an extremely competitive and target-driven industry. It’s no longer enough to just have a natural sales talent and drive for the job. For recruiters to achieve the best of their professional abilities, they are going to need a genuine connection, passion and drive for the market they operate in.

Take a look at the fish in the diagram below. The fish could be the most talented swimmer but it will never know it's real worth or true potential by attempting to climb a tree in an unnatural environment.

The same principle applies to the recruitment industry. Recruiters who are not performing up to their expectations in their current market, or not finding it stimulating, will slowly but surely begin to feel disengaged and dissatisfied with their career.

It should be. Although change can be scary, it is undeniably the precise thing that is needed to reach your true potential and work fulfilment.

A common misconception among recruiters is that transitioning recruitment market means starting completely from scratch. In reality, if you have previous experience in the recruitment industry, then truly understanding the ins and outs of a new market will take you about three months. After this time, you will be fully operating, and building yourself a niche to excel in your new field. In the grand scheme of things, three months is a small sacrifice of your time to grow your personal, professional, and financial satisfaction.
